What is EFT?
(Emotional Freedom Technique)
EFT can help you feel better and more balanced often after just a few minutes of tapping. By focusing on the issue, you are “tuned in” so that the underlying negative emotion or pain may be released by this healing technique. How long an issue has been with you is not necessarily tied to how long it will take to reduce it, resolve it or discover the root cause. Working with an experienced EFT practitioner often gets to deep core issues more quickly. Using EFT on your own is also recommended and can bring surprising results. You are on your way to an exciting adventure in healing!
The “Basic Recipe of EFT”
Step 1: Choose one specific problem to work on.
Step 2: Rate anxiety, stress or emotion on a scale of 0-10 (0 = no discomfort, 10 = the highest level. This is call the SUDS level – Subjective Units of Distress)
Step 3: Do the “Set-up Statement” as follows while tapping on the Karate Chop point. Name the problem you have chosen followed by an affirmation. Examples:
“Even though I have this anxiety about my interview, I deeply and completely accept myself.” Or
“Even though I am worried about my finances, I deeply and completely accept myself.” Or
“Even though I have this strong craving for ice cream, I deeply and completely accept myself.”
While tapping your Karate Chop point, repeat your Set-up statement 3 times. When you have completed this step, create an easy, short reminder of the phrase you used for the problem, such a as “this anxiety, this worry, this craving etc…
Step 4: Tap the release points below as shown. As you tap each point, approximately 7 times, repeat your Reminder phrase “this anxiety, this worry, this intense craving for sugar etc…
Tap the sequence of points below.
EB - Eyebrow - where it begins near the nose
SE - Side of the eye - outside corner on the bone
UE - Under the eye on the bone under the pupil
UN - Under nose in the hollow
CH - Under lower lip in the hollow
CB - 1 inch down and 1 inch over from the bones that make a U under your Adam’s apple – pat this whole area with your hand.
UA - Under the arm - 4 inches under the armpit
H - Top of the head, all around
Step 5: Rate your level of discomfort or stress as you think about the SAME problem again. Notice how you feel about it NOW on the scale of 0 – 10. If it hasn’t gone to zero or 1 do the next step.
Step 6: Do the Set-up statement again.
Now you can do a few more rounds to further reduce the charge of negative feelings, thoughts or pain. Suppose your number dropped from a 9 to a 5 on the first round of tapping. Your next set- up statement will be revised to reflect the change in your emotional intensity around the problem. Examples are:
“Even though I STILL have some of this anxiety about my interview, I deeply and completely accept myself.”
“Even though I STILL have some of the worry about my finances, I deeply and completely accept myself.”
“Even though I STILL have some cravings for ice cream, I deeply and completely accept myself.”
Step 7: Tap the points again
Do step 4 again revising your reminder phrase as in “this remaining anger, this remaining worry, this remaining craving. Step 8: Measure your stress, anxiety, craving, fear (whatever the chosen problem) on the scale of 0-10.

Step 9: Repeat steps 5-9 until you are at a 0 or 1 on the scale.
Even though reading this process may seem long, a round of tapping only takes about a minute!! In just a few minutes you can significantly reduce your anxiety, fear, pain or stress and feel much better and more balanced. Try it and see for yourself. Also, do not be worried about doing this EXACTLY RIGHT or getting the RIGHT numbers on the 0 – 10 scale (for those perfectionists out there…) EFT is a very forgiving process and a guess will be just the right answer. You can also choose to tap on both sides of the body at once or just one side, whichever is more comfortable.
